Found this place and thought we'd give it a try. I thought the food was really good. Nothing fancy, good prices, authentic taste. It was empty, but we were there at 7:30 on a weeknight. Great looking place if you are ok with old decor. I think everything was pretty original.

After years of curiosity, I finally went to Villa D'Este last night with friends and we fell in love! The decor and architecture date back to 1928, when this spot was opened as a hideaway for movie stars getting away from the hustle bustle of Hollywood. Evidently Jean Harlow was a regular customer back in the day, and you can see why. Photos can't do the interior justice. It truly feels like stepping back into another era. I learned about the history, by the way, from the singer who spent the evening serenading the room with classics, along with live piano accompaniment. What a treat!
As for the food, I feel that some other reviewers have been overly unkind. Admittedly it wasn't gourmet, but it was perfectly tasty for a family-style Italian restaurant, and it was a crazy good bargain for San Francisco! My chicken Parmesan came with salad, soup, antipasto, pasta, coffee, and ice cream for $19! The meal came out in courses which made for a very enjoyable leisurely evening with friends. It felt like a special occasion and the total bill for four, including three cocktails, came to just over $100. So why should you hold the food quality to a standard of restaurants charging three times as much?
My advice to you: get into the spirit of enjoying this place for what it is and you will truly have an amazing time, and an experience unlike anywhere else you've ever been. -

Hidden gem in SF. Ramon, the owner, is one the sweetest guys you'll ever meet. Great serve ice, tremendous food and such a fun place to be. Highly recommended!

Stopped by for dessert. Wifey had tiramisu which seemed wet rather than moist and wasn't good. I had cheesecake and it just was ok nothing special. Our servers were very nice and attentive. That's all.

Went for fathers day brunch. Food was very disappointing.
Great service and ambiance but food was horrible for that brunch.
